★~ Today’s Quote: “There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle.”  Albert Einstein

★~ Pi Day is celebrated every year on March 14th.  Coincidentally, 3/14 happens to be Albert Einstein’s birthday – a man who was not unfamiliar with theories and concepts of mathematics.

★~Today In History:

♥~ 1950 – The F.B.I. released its first Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. The first person to make the list was Thomas James Holden.

♥~ 1959 – Elvis Presley made the album charts, but no one would have known by the title of the disk. For LP Fans Only was the first LP ever issued without the artist’s name to be found anywhere on the cover — front or back.

♥~ 1968 – After two seasons on television, ABC-TV showed the last episode of Batman, starring Adam West and Burt Ward as Robin. The first Batman episode was Hi Diddle Riddle, shown on January 12, 1966. The pilot program for Batman cost $300,000 — quite expensive by 1966 standards.

♥~ 1972 – Cosmopolitan magazine released its controversial issue with actor Burt Reynolds in a nude pose. The issue was a sell-out.

★~  Did You Know:

♥~ pi is a remarkable number: π=3.14159 26535 89793 23846 26433 83279 50288 41971 69399 37510 58209 74944 59230 78164 06286 20899 86280 34825 34211 70679 82148 08651 32823 …

♥~ pi was introduced by the English mathematician William Jones in 1706, who wrote:3.14159 = π. This symbol was adopted by Euler in 1737 and became the standard symbol for pi.

♥~An eighteenth-century French mathematician named Georges Buffon devised a way to calculate pi based on probability. You can try Buffon’s needle experiment for yourself (virtually) by clicking this link Buffon needle experiment . Some ants apparently actually use this algorithm to measure the size of potential nest sites!

♥~ Poems have been written about pi

Consider humble pi. It is a number never ending.
It never repeats itself as its value keeps ascending.
Based upon a circle, many men have tried
to calculate the ratio of its width to its outside.
It is called irrational because it can not be made a fraction.
The challenge of its nature has been a call to action.
The number pi has played a role in every life on earth.
From physics to statistics, its always proved its worth.
The tires that you ride on, the table where you dine,
little pi was there throughout its concept and design.
Humble pi is constant – its been a great addition
and quietly serves us each day without recognition.
If you can not appreciate why I hold this number high,
then shame! It is you that should be eating humble pie.

♥~ Its Just Life shares the Pi with a tribute song Pi Pi Mathematical Pi. Click over for your listening pleasure.

♥~ In honor of pi Day the The Pioneer Woman shows us how to make her favorite pie. Key Lime pie! This day is looking up!

Math and I? Lets just say we don’t see eye to pi; even talking about pi gives me hives. What about you–what’s your relationship to math? Is it pi in the sky for you or is it your piece of  pi?

I do have a short Hakai poem to share–The poem reflects my inner most math feelings.

It’s 3 point 1 4
on and on forevermore
giving all a bore

Pi,

  1. Love math. In fact it might have been one of the reasons I became and engineer. 😀 I find pi fascinating. Odd I know but I can not help myself.

Thank you for letting me know today was pi day and not just and ordinary Monday.

    pi. pi.
    Colleen

  2. Oh contrary my Dear Kb, pi is never boring. How can you think such a thing.

“Somewhere inside the digits of pi is a representation for all of us — the atomic coordinates of all our atoms, our genetic code, all our thoughts, all our memories. Given this fact, all of us are alive, and hopefully happy, in pi. Pi makes us live forever. We all lead virtual lives in pi. We are immortal.” – Cliff Pickover

Good stuff! Now stop rolling your eyes.

  3. Even if you don’t understand much about PI–it only seems friendly to have a piece of pie and celebrate Albert Einstein’s birthday.

An empty stomach is not a good political adviser.
    Albert Einstein

    Love the Eagles.

  4. Burt Reynolds was very sexy in that picture–although he really did not show anything at all.

Happy Pi day to YOU. I think I will join you by enjoying a piece of pie–I don’t want to be a pi–pooper. 😀

  5. Pi is such an interesting thing isn’t it? A string of numbers everlong that proves its usfulness daily in all of our lives. I’m going to go eat a piece of flan in honor of the darned thing right now. Flan is round and I feel that custard has a place in the history of pi, from both a chemical perspective and an astrographical perspective….verily a pi in the hand of man is a vast consolation.;-)

In honor of the mathmatical constant I offer a musical salute in the hope that world peace is really about keeping people’s attention directed at something silly.

  6. Happy Pi Day to you, also!!! I shared a couple of musical selections on my blog today about the wonders of Pi! Who would have thought it was such a celebrated thing?? Now if only I had a piece of pie to eat…..

  7. Oh My….that picture of Burt brings back a ton of memories..I worked at a place called KKO in Capron,IL. and there were 3 of us gals that worked upstairs alone making switches for deep fryer and we HAD that picture of Burt on our wall in front of us to gaze at. It was a huge one and filled quite a bit of the wall, and we all had dreams of Burt walking in….Never happened.!! 🙁

  8. Did not know Burt posed for such a great pic. Bet if I had one it would be worth even more now. Thanks for the new image.
