★~  Today’s Quote: We’ve begun to long for the pitter-patter of little feet – so we bought a dog. Well, it’s cheaper, and you get more feet. Rita Rudner

★~ Measure-Your-Feet-Day: (Note: In 2012-Measure feet day moved to January 23, 2012)

I have no idea why, but what can it hurt? I have very narrow, long feet (9 AAA); Cole has giant feet (12 and 1/2 inches). Joe always said he had Jesus feet (11 and 1/2 inches). I have to admit his feet were pretty and perfect—of course, he was terrified of not wearing shoes, and used to sleep with them beside the bed. My dad once announced that my mom would be 3 inches taller if she did not have so much turned-under  for feet—and she retorted, “I could put both my feet in your mouth and still have room to run around.” OK. Moving along ….

★~ Today In History:

♥~1913 – William Knox literally bowled ’em over at the American Bowling Congress tournament held in Toledo, Ohio. Knox rolled the first perfect 300 game in tournament competition.

~ 1941 – The Brooklyn Dodgers announced that their players would wear batting helmets during the 1941 baseball season. General Manager Larry MacPhail (he started the Dodger dynasty in the thirties) predicted that all baseball players would soon be wearing the new devices. He was right.

~ 1980Scarsdale Diet author Dr. Herman Tarnower was shot to death at his Purchase, New York home. Jean Harris was arrested and convicted of the crime. New York Governor Mario Cuomo granted Harris clemency and she was released from prison in 1993.

♥~ 1979 – Chart Topper: Gloria Gaynor started a three week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘I Will Survive’, also a No.1 in the UK. The song was originally released as the B-side to a song first recorded by The Righteous Brothers called ‘Substitute.

★~ Born Today:

~1940Chuck Norris (Carlos Ray Norris ) karate champion, actor: Code of Silence, Delta Force, Forced Vengeance, Lone Wolf McQuade, Missing in Action, Walker, Texas Ranger

1945 Katharine Houghton (Grant)actress: Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, Billy Bathgate, The Night We Never Met; niece of actress Katharine Hepburn

~ 1958 Sharon Stone actress: Last Dance, Casino, The Specialist, Basic Instinct, Total Recall, War & Remembrance series, Above the Law, Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol,  Allan Quartermain and the Lost City of Gold, King Solomon’s Mines, Calendar Girl Murders, Deadly Blessing, The Bay City Blues

★~ Did you know:

♥~  The record for world’s largest feet belongs to Matthew McGrory who wears US size 28 1/2 shoes,

♥~ Madeline Albrechy hold the world record for longest running feet sniffing career at 5,600. She works for  Dr. Scholl’s.

♥~The average person takes 10,000 steps per day. That’s equal to 115,000 miles in a lifetime, enough to circle the world four times. Thank God! I always worry about getting enough exercise!

♥~ 9 our of 10 women wear shoes that are too small for them…Women experience foot problems four times more often than men. Mmm…I wonder why?

♥~  The average foot gets two sizes longer when a person stands up–so if you are worried about big feet-remain seated.

In honor of measure-your-feet day … share something about your feet. Something vital—like what is your favorite toenail color? Or does your mother insist that people without painted toenails are uncouth? Or maybe it’s time to schedule a pedicure … you know, just in case my mom stops by for an El Morno cuppa.

Share with me in the comment section of Odd, because you know Odd loves company …. If you don’t have the time to visit right now … there is always tomorrow! Have a great day, and remember to put your best foot forward! (Oh, come on … you saw that coming.)

  1. Some people wear Superman pajamas. Superman wears Chuck Norris pajamas..
Chuck Norris sold his soul to the devil for his rugged good looks and unparalleled martial arts ability. Shortly after the transaction was finalized, Chuck roundhouse kicked the devil in the face and took his soul back. The devil, who appreciates irony, couldn’t stay mad and admitted he should have seen it coming. They now play poker every second Wednesday of the month.

  2. There is a career in foot smelling. Ok. Do they offer college courses or is this learned through experience and mentorship?
I am going to wow my husband today with the baseball helmet knowledge.
    Thanks. This is fun!

  3. My feet measure 12 inches. Last year my wife introduced me to pedicures. It was nice but I skipped the nail color.

Chuck Norris Joke: Chuck Norris doesn’t breathe, he holds air hostage.

  4. In the summer I love to wear funky colors on my toes! Deep, deep reds, sparkly colors and ink blue are some of my faves! I hardly ever wear colored polish on my fingernails though! l I’ve also had a couple pedis, and I’m addicted to shoes! 😀

    • Sounds like you have vern festive toes, Miera! Those toes are made to tap and and party! Shoes-I have learned to like them a lot more since they have more of a selection in my size.

  5. Purple is my very favorite color – even on my toes. It is SO time to schedule a pedi – I usually do my own, but I’ve gained a little weight this winter and I can’t paint my toes and breath at the same time. I have a total aversion to shoes, but it seems that if I sand my heels before I get in the shower I can cut down on that horrible scratchy feeling. Gordon gets out of bed and puts on his shoes – for about 10 years I thought he was going somewhere, turns out he just wants shoes, even in the house….

    • Treat yourself! Nothing like a pedi to give you the feeling of spring time–a time where we can kick off our shoes inside and out!!
Purple color? Wow you are cutting edge, my friend

  6. Use to wear size 5-51/2, but…after all these years my footies have grown up..now are a 6. Left little toe sits on top of next toe…Was born that way. Guess that is how I got my nickname from my dad of “tootsie”.

  7. Ahhh, you’re a woman after my own heart! I love factoids such as these. And your closing remarks? Very punny, indeed.

(I’m embarassed to say, I didn’t receive my first pedicure until my first pregnancy….at age 40!)

    • The important thing is you had “your first” and I hope it was the first of many.
Facts and tips are fun–I am glad could share them with you! Thanks for dropping by!
