★~ Use Your Common Sense Day:

Common sense

Today on Will Rogers birthday we are celebrating common sense. Rogers said, “Common sense ain’t all that common.”

Today is easy to celebrate:

Come in out the rain,

Don’t stand out in the cold,

If you’re in a grocery store and must walk away from your cart for a moment, move it out of everybody’s way — don’t leave it in the middle of an aisle,

Get out of the passing lane, and stay out, unless you’re willing to match the speed of the people already there,

Don’t lick the butter,

And above all….Use the common sense the good lord gave you and turn out those lights when you leave the room-does it look like I’m made of money?

★~ Candy Day:

Candy Day

Humans have been eating candies and sweet confections for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians preserved nuts and fruits in honey, and the Aztecs and Mayans consumed chocolate during religious rituals as early as 300 AD.

~ Tootsie Rolls were created by Leo Hirshfield of New York in 1896. He named them after his daughter, who was nicknamed “Tootsie.”

~ The average American eats twenty-five pounds of candy each year. That may seem like a lot, but the average person in Denmark eats thirty-six pounds each year!

~ Jeanne Calment, who died in Aries, France, in 1995 at the age of 121, ate more than two pounds of chocolate every week.

~ Large amounts of licorice were found in King Tut’s tomb.

~ Cotton candy is made out of 100% sugar.

~ Candy is the 575th most popular name for girls.

~ The world’s largest chocolate bar was manufactured in Armenia (September 2010) and weighed in at 9,722.39 lbs., setting a new Guinness World Record.

Whether you like chocolate, caramels, hard candy, or marzipan, treat yourself to something sweet to celebrate National Candy Day!

Monday

Try something new this week!

The estate sale is done, only my car bares witness to the remains which I will haul off to Goodwill today or maybe tomorrow. I’ll be back to share the days adventurous with you. Right now, I am languishing over a hot tea, apple bread, and internet that is not dial up.

Wishing you a very Merry Monday!

  1. Morno,
Glad you’re back. Common sense and candy make for a good day. I have some left-over to take to the office. I might even buy a box of the good stuff. I like listening to everyone groan and then eat it all.
I’ve been to the ABQ balloon fiesta and it was great. My kids went up in a balloon while I waved with my feet firmly on the ground.
Glad the sale wrapped up and you can call it done.
    Have a good one.

    • I am back in spirit. Don’t expect a whole lot this week as I run around like a demon playing catch up. Note I was 7 hours late with Tuesdays El morno. Sorry.
Torturing your employes with candy. Amusing.
The hot air balloons fly right over my parents house all year. Sometimes they come in so close you can exchange greetings. Very cool.

  2. I am very happy to celebrate Candy day since I have a ton of leftover Halloween candy..only had 10 trick or treaters this year.
Loved your videos today..balloons are awesome but I would never go up in one.
I think you need an award for all your hard work with the estate sale..you really worked hard on that. 😀

    • We usually have lots of trick or treaters but it rained hard all night. Poor ME. Left with all that lovely, lovely candy.
Me either! My dad went up with Cole and while Cole loved it after their crash landing my dad said that was the last balloon ride he had in him.
Thank you. The sale is over, my car is empty and I am done. With only my cactus lamp to love.

  3. Candy day — woo hoo!! And if that woman lived to 121 by eating chocolate, perhaps we should follow her lead!

Loved your Lego projects and will send the link to Domer. Was anybody in his generation NOT a Lego fan??

I don’t cotton to the state that matches your personality quiz, though (probably because I got a result that I’m not happy with!). I mean, c’mon, some of those choices are ridiculous — the very first question is “extroverted, enthusiastic.” What if you’re one but not necessarily the other?? How does one answer that? Oh, well, not your fault. It was interesting nonetheless!

Glad your sale is done and you’re celebrating with tea!

    • Cole’s first grade buddy wants to be an architect when he grows up (the pairing of the two of them was so perfect) and Michael loves legos. Cole went over to build a wooden box with him and I think he would have stayed the rest of the day just to build with his legos. A wonderful timeless toy.
Sorry you didn’t like your state. What I wonder….Is an introvert really enthusiastic if nobody experiences their enthusiasm?

  4. Common sense seems to be lacking in a lot of people these days. It drives me nuts. Don’t block the aisle with your massive grocery cart! Don’t drive 10 miles an hour in a 45 mph zone, don’t drive the wrong way in a parking lot or cut across willy nilly to get to where you want to be. Common sense, folks!!! Okay–it isn’t Tuesday rant day, is it?
Relax with some tea and chocolate and rejoice in the fact that a successful estate sale was had. 🙂

  5. great will rogers common sense quotes…….especially today’s quote. this world needs more common sense.
normally i would rejoice in candy day, but i’m about candied out at the moment. i’ll take a rain check though!
yay! estate sale if history. your final thoughts?
rain again today, tomorrow, too. bring it.
    good evening!

    • Final Thoughts? Yes a few some of which I will post and others I will let fly off into the wind. Done. :-D. I made cookies yesterday. It was time for a change. Hang on to that rain check for the next time you are in the mood for a sweet treat.

  6. Well your Dad did it again! We have 5 pounds of left over candy, little choc bars of every variety. We also have a small chocolate cake, a small apple pie and a small cheesecake. How the heck did we wind up with so much sweet stuff?
