Curried Chicken, Feast of the Fabulous Wild Man, Marzipan Day

Curried chicken is a popular dish in Asia, the United Kingdom, and the Caribbean. The word “curry” is an anglicized version of the Tamil word “kari,” which means “stir-fried.”

While we usually associate curried chicken with a hot Indian dish served over rice, there are many other recipes that call for both key ingredients. In England, curried chicken salad is called Coronation Chicken. Constance Spry and Rosemary Hume created the dish for Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation banquet in 1953. It has been a popular sandwich filling ever since.

Dionysus, a Greek god born from the thigh of Zeus is often celebrated in January. He is the god of wine and drunken revelry, a patron of the theater and an agricultural/fertility god in Greek mythology. Some consider him one of the original wild men.  So, men, drink up, feast and be merry in the spirit of Dionysus, just keep in mind  that while Dionysus was considered wild he was never considered wise.

♥~1904 –  Henry Ford sets a land-speed record of 91.37 mph on the frozen surface of Michigan‘s Lake St. Clair. He was driving a four-wheel vehicle, dubbed the “999,” with a wooden chassis but no body or hood. Ford’s record was broken within a month at Ormond Beach, Florida, by a driver named William K. Vanderbilt; even so, the publicity surrounding Ford’s achievement was valuable to the auto pioneer, who in June of the previous year had incorporated the Ford Motor Company, which would eventually go on to become one of America’s Big Three automakers.

♥~ 1773 – The first public museum was organized — in Charleston, South Carolina.

♥~ 1971 – All In the Family  Based on the success of the British comedy “Till Death Us Do Part,” Norman Lear created CBS’s controversial sitcom “All in the Family.” The series was the first of its kind to realistically portray the prevailing issues and taboos of its time with a wickedly humorous bent.

♥~ 1999 – Mark McGwire’s 70th home run ball was sold at auction in New York for three million to an anonymous bidder. It was the most money ever paid for a sports artifact. 1. El Morno Queen you reign again. Happy Birthday Hal. One of my favorite movies back in the day.
I enjoy a curry dish. Might have to have Chinese this week.
Off to melt some faces. Have a good one.

    • Thank you Sir Mike. I like curry too especially in pilaf. My sweet Mom makes a wonderful pilaf. Chinese is always good.
      Melt away.

  2. Ooh, I do love that quote — makes me feel all capable and strong and stuff! Are you going to include a Quote of the Day in El Morno this year??

Donuts. Now you’ve got me craving one. Curry? Not so much.

Darling panda. Dallas loves snow, too, but we don’t have much more than a dusting (a dusting with ice on top of it!)

    • Me too. I’ll always have todays quote and will try to include the GRR quotes when I find them. Funny I felt the same way when I read it – all capable and strong.
The snow has been on the light side compared to last year. We want to try sledding with one of campers so we are looking forward to some “big snow” as Cole use to say when he was a pup.
      Donuts…mmmmm.

  3. A big fan of the original campy Batman.
I’ll take my chicken prepared differently……grilled. A cupcake would be great!
I, too, like the quote today.
