★~ Today’s Quote: When I hear the hypercritical quarreling about grammar and style, the position of the particles, etc., etc., stretching or contracting every speaker to certain rules of theirs. I see that they forget that the first requisite and rule is that expression shall be vital and natural, as much as the voice of a brute or an interjection: first of all, mother tongue; and last of all, artificial or father tongue. ★~ National Punctuation Day: 

I’m honoring punctuation because it is the right thing to do on it’s special day. However, I have NO intention of giving up Whimsical Capitalization (thank you Carla for coining this phrase for me and gifting it to me), engaging in the over use of commas, or forsaking the semicolon when it would just look cool. I will continue to promote !!! and the overuse of quotation marks.  Apostrophes or perhaps Apostrophe’s are a pain in the teehineyhocus. My revenge? To thwart them by misplacing them often. Period. A day set aside for anyone who has said, “I don’t have time to do the personal things I want to do for myself.”  Today is the day to set time aside for yourself to do anything you want to do.

★~ Food Of The Day: Cherries Jubilee Day:

To make cherries jubilee, you take a bunch of cherries, put them in a bowl and light them on fire. Actually… hang on… there may be some other steps. You might want to double-check that recipe..

The original Cherries Jubilee recipe (cherries, krisch or brandy liqueur) is attributed to French chef Auguste Escoffie who prepared the dish for one of Queen Victoria’s jubilee celebrations. It is unclear whether it first appeared at the Golden Jubilee in 1887 or the Diamond Jubilee in 1897, but it quickly became one of the most fashionable desserts of the era. For many years, cherries jubilee was a standard menu item at America’s finest restaurants, reaching the peak of its popularity in the 1950s and 1960s.

Enjoy Cherries Jubilee!  However if you set a match to your dessert remember a little flambé goes a long way.

♥~ 1940 – Flinging a Wing Ding was recorded by Bob Chester.

♥~ 1961 – Bullwinkle J. Moose and his friend, Rocket J. (Rocky) Squirrel, were seen in prime time for the first time on NBC-TV. The Sunday night cartoon (7-7:30 p.m.) was called The Bullwinkle Show. Originally Bullwinkle and Rocky appeared on ABC in a weekday afternoon series, Rocky and His Friends.

♥~ 1964 – The Munsters premiered on CBS-TV. The show featured Frankenstein-look-alike Herman Munster (played by Fred Gwynne), Lily Munster (Yvonne DeCarlo), Edward ‘Eddie’ Wolfgang Munster (Butch Patrick), all-American beautiful blonde Marilyn Munster (Pat Priest & Debbie Watson), and Grandpa (played by Al Lewis). The Munster fun ran for seventy episodes — through Sep 1, 1966.

♥~ 1966 – Jimmy Hendrix changed the spelling of his name to Jimi.

♥~ 1977- The Love Boat set sail — on ABC-TV.  The voice of Ernie Anderson, will always be remembered for his intros announcing, “The Luuuuuve Boat.”

♥~ 1896 – F. (Francis) Scott (Key) Fitzgerald  writer: This Side of Paradise, The Great Gatsby, Tender is the Night; died Dec 21, 1940

♥~ 1936 – Jim (James Maury) Henson Puppeteer, born at Greenville, MS. Jim Henson created a unique family of puppets known as the Muppets. Kermit the Frog, Big Bird, Rowlf, Bert and Ernie, Gonzo, Animal, Miss Piggy and Oscar the Grouch are a few of the puppets that captured the hearts of children and adults alike in television and film productions including “Sesame Street,” “The Jimmy Dean Show,” “The Muppet Show,” The Muppet Movie, The Muppets Take Manhattan, The Great Muppet Caper and The Dark Crystal. Henson began his career in 1954 as producer of the TV show “Sam and Friends” at Washington, DC. He introduced the Muppets in 1956. His creativity was rewarded with 18 Emmy Awards, seven Grammy Awards, four Peabody Awards and five ACE Awards from the National Cable Television Association. Henson died unexpectedly May 16, 1990, at New York, NY.

★~ Did You Know: 

♥~ Jim Henson cited ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and puppeteer Burr Tillstrom (of Kukla, Fran and Ollie fame) among his early influences.

♥~ While still in high school, he began working for a local TV station in Maryland, creating puppets for a Saturday morning children’s show. During college, he created a 5-minute puppet show called “Sam and Friends” for the local NBC affiliate in Washington D.C. It was on this show Kermit the Frog made his debut in 1955.

♥~ The earliest version of Kermit was created using a turquoise ladies’ coat Henson’s mother had discarded. Two ping pong balls were used for the eyes.

♥~ Kermit goes by several different names around the world. In Portugal, he’s Cocas. In Latin America, René. In Spain, he goes by the name Gustavo.

♥~ Kermit – made the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1979, with “The Rainbow Connection” reaching #25.

♥~ Kermit the Frog has his own star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame. He also received an honorary doctorate of Amphibious Letters at Southampton College. The University of Maryland campus has a statue of Kermit and his creator.

♥~ After college, Henson travelled in Europe, and was inspired by the artistry of European puppeteers. Throughout the 1960s, Henson primarily worked in commercials, his most famous being a puppet based campaign for Wilkins Coffee.
